I’ve been receiving questions on my blog post regarding those NDS ROMs that they can download. They were able to download the zip file, but what to do next? Yup, you cannot just stare at it and expect to copy itself automatically to your R4DS. Even Bill Gates can’t do that!
Ok. Here’s a simple step by step procedure. I assume that you use Windows XP or higher and you have some computer skills. Being able to use your mouse and knowing how to copy-paste is good enough.
1. Unzip the zip file you’ve downloaded using your favorite unzip application. Keep it in a safe place for future use.
2. Remove your microSD card from the R4DS cartridge.
3. Insert your microSD card to the microSD USB adaptor that you got when you bought your R4DS.
4. Insert the microSD USB adaptor (where your microSD card is inserted) to your PC’s USB port. Windows will automatically detect it.
5. Go to My Computer. You’ll see a new drive in it. That’s your microSD card. Double click it.
6. Copy the .NDS file that you unzipped on step 1 and paste it on the drive that you opened on step 5. Never paste it to any directory. Just paste it on the root directory. You only need to copy the .NDS files, no more, no less, just ignore the other files that goes with the zip file.
7. Safely remove your USB drive when done copying all the NDS files. I guess, you know how to do this. If not, ask anyone around you.
8. Remove the microSD card from the microSD USB adaptor.
9. Insert the microSD card to your R4DS cartridge.
10. Insert your R4DS cartridge to your Nintendo DS Lite.
11. Turn on your Nintendo DS Lite. If you followed all the directions above correctly, you’ll be able to see the copied games on the list of games on your R4DS now. Enjoy!
Take note that copying game ROMs to your R4DS is illegal, unless you have the original copy of the game and you’re just copying the backup. R4DS is NOT illegal, it’s what you do with it that could make it illegal. Just copy your back-up games. Hehe.

This looks great, I think I’ll try it for my wife’s DS - one question though: do I need to have the DS Lite chipped or cracked at all to be able to use the games once they’re copied onto the R4DS?
Cheers for info.

First Off The Root Directory Is The First Window That Will Open. Example. F:/ Do Not Place Them In A Folder. Second No The DS Does Not Need To Be Chipped Or Modded When Using The R4. The R4 Chip Itself Does All That For You

I’ve purchased 8 new games and have invested in the CycloDS Evolution (for slot 1) plus the EZ3in1 (for slot 2).
Please advise as to how I may copy my currently purchased games onto my micro sdhc memory card - is there some kind of software I can download (and where) which stays in memory for when I swap out the slot 1 game to where it needs to be copied or is it temporarily copied onto my slot 2 card?
HELP!

I have followed the instructions on how to copy your Nintendo DS games, I unzipped and then copied the .nds file into the directory (nds) where my other games are. When I turn on the ds the new games are listed but when it loads I get “”cannot read the date, turn off the ds and reinsert the card” Does anyone have any idea why this happens.
Cheers
