The Playboy Magazine enters the Philippine market today. But you will not see any frontal nudity. Here’s a snippet of a news from Internation Herald Tribune:
The Philippines gets its own version of Playboy magazine on Wednesday without full frontal nudity in deference to the country’s influential Roman Catholic Church.”We’re adjusting it to local conditions,” the editor-in-chief, Beting Laygo Dolor, 54, said in an interview. “If the church gets very angry, you can expect a reaction on the political front, maybe even big business. We don’t exist to lock horns with the church.”
About 86 percent of the population of 91 million people in the Philippines is baptized Roman Catholic and the government’s classification board routinely deletes scenes of nudity from movies. A Manila mayor filed and then withdrew charges of grave scandal against a model who posed in a bikini on the main highway for the local edition of FHM magazine in 2002.
It is the 25th international franchise of Playboy, which has a global readership of almost 15 million people, according to Playboy Enterprises. The publication will contain articles and fiction from some of the country’s best-known writers, according to Dolor.

I think they’re coming in too late. Although they will receive an initial fan base and an influx of early adopters, they would need to penetrate (no pun intended) and compete in the stiff (again no pun intended) market of FHM and other international franchises.

Miss Earth 2004 Priscilla Meirelles will soon be in the cover of the first issue of Playboy Philippines. She’s the girlfriend of Filipino actor John Estrada.

as a men’s magazine… it sucks.
it would be better off as a cooking magazine. the cover looks like it anyway.

me and my friends saw a copy of the 2nd Playboy Philippines…
much better! i guess Beting & friends finally got their act together.
cover girl is Raquel Gibson. one of the Fil-Am international covergirls before. thank god the cover is finally a full body shot! it’s a shot of her on a bangka SS Raquel. much better.
although i still didn’t buy it… so i have no idea how the inside looks like. anybody out there seen the inside?

Apparently Mr. Ku the financier/publisher was bitchslapped by Playboy International.
That’s why the second issue (well the cover at least) is looking a million times better.
Also the current editor in chief, Beting Dolor will “resign” soon. Supposedly he won’t last beyond June or July of 2008.
Maybe the Hef though it was time to let the old dog go. HAHA!
