I discovered this when I blogged about the 30-minute Obama ad where I linked to a CNN article. Minutes after blogging about it, I started receiving referral traffic from CNN. I found out that my blog post got a link from the “From the Blogs” section of their article under “Blogs linking to this story:”. Since that article was popular at that time, it sent my blog at least 60 new unique visitors from CNN.com.
The next time, I blogged about Obama winning the USA election. I linked again to a CNN article. And it sent me at least 35 new unique visitors.
Here’s a screen shot of my Google Analytics showing CNN referred visitors. (click for a larger view)
And here’s a screen shot of my link from CNN.com.
I actually twitted about it, Dexter tried it and he got his link on the CNN.com website too as you can see from the screen shot above.

Actually, I was thinking of McCain’s speech when he conceded but still think of a nice approach. I have a post that tackled the recent US Election using a link from BBC but had nothing. Maybe it’s time to switch to CNN….lol!
Thanks for sharing!

@Angel… i’ve been linking to different news sources before, but after discovering this, I will check first if CNN has the story and link to them before any other sources.

CNN is quite a reputed name. So obviously if you can manage to get a link from them, it could be a big hit. And you could get droves of traffic.
