So, we have Smart Bro in our boarding house. We have two laptops, both with Wi-Fi capability. My boardmate’s idea is to buy a wireless router so that we can share the internet connection. But I have a better idea. Why spend on a wireless router if we can connect the laptops directly? Well, I didn’t know it’s possible, but it is. I just googled and found the steps in setting up a wireless network without a router. The steps are directly from Microsoft. See it here. It is called ad hoc connection.
After following the steps, we were able to set it up. Now, we can surf the web at the same time using our laptops. One is directly connected to Smart Bro, one is sharing internet connection via Wi-Fi. Cool! So, we were able to save some money for that wireless router.

Wow, great info as always. We have a wired router and have been planning on getting a wireless one for convenience. Glad I found this info first. Buying the adapter for our other laptop would be a better investment since it would also work for other wifi spots outside the house, right? But of course we’ll need a separate wifi prepaid card for that.

the only problem of this is, you need to open the first laptop before the 2nd one can avail the internet connection. this is just similar case to when using the Windows-routing capability wherein Windows itself serves as router.

Really nice idea. I will try to convince my appartment colleague to do the samething because we both need internet connection as soon as posible and for the moment we don’t have the money to buy a router. Thanks for the tip.
